The LPGA Tour is in Tulsa, Okla., this week for the SemGroup Championship Presented by John Q. Hammons, held May 4-6 at Cedar Ridge Country Club
Last year\'s champion Cristie Kerr will be going for her first title defense of the season. Kerr shot a tournament-record 14-under-par 199 to beat Annika Sorenstam by two strokes. It was one of three LPGA Tour victories last season for Kerr, who had a career-high 19 top-10 finishes to earn more than $1.5 million.
Kerr positioned herself to win after shooting a 10-under-par 61 in the third round, the best 18 holes of the 2006 season. It included birdies on 10 of the first 14 holes, giving Kerr a one-stroke lead going into Sunday.
In the final round, Sorenstam, who will not compete in Tulsa because of an injured back that has her off the LPGA Tour for at least two more weeks, took a two-stroke lead through 10 holes, but Kerr surged back with birdies on 11 and 12 to tie before cementing victory with two more birdies on holes 15 and 17.
World No. 1 women\'s golfer Lorena Ochoa finished third. Ochoa is coming off a strong second place performance at last week\'s Corona Championship in Morelia, Mexico, where she was outplayed in the final round by Silvia Cavalleri, now the first Italian to win an LPGA Tour event.
Stacy Prammanasudh, who grew up in Oklahoma and attended the University of Tulsa, will be the hometown favorite. She already has one win this season, the Fields Open in Hawaii, and was the early leader in Mexico before finishing tied for sixth.
The field at the SemGroup Championship Presented by John Q. Hammons includes 26 of the top 30 2007 money winners.
